Auger boring (bed boring) and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) both provide trenchless solutions for installation of underground assets and utilities. While these two types of drilling/boring are very similar, they have distinct differences that you should be aware of when choosing the right process for your project. The project’s ground type, location, conduit material, and distance are all factors that should be taken into consideration.
At AV Drilling, we offer both horizontal directional drilling and auger boring, so in this article, we aim to provide some insight into each of these processes.
Advantages Of HDD & When to Use It
One of the biggest advantages of horizontal directional drilling is that it is suitable for a wide variety of terrains. The equipment needed is usually quite compact and can be easily transported within the Sydney Metro or to regional areas. At AV Drilling, a borehole of up to 600mm can be drilled, catering for multiple sizes of pipe configuration. s.
Like aforementioned, HDD can be used in a wide variety of environments thanks to trackable drill heads and other technological devices. HDD, like auger boring, is a great choice for installing conduits such for power, water, gas and communications including NBN. There is not much that HDD can’t do, and with the right drilling equipment partners, drilling performance is enhanced.
Advantages Of Dry Auger Boring
Auger boring can get into very challenging locations and leaves surrounding areas undisturbed, making it ideal for busy, urban environments. At AV Drilling, we most commonly use dry auger boring to drill under pavements, driveways, and narrow roadways. Dry Auger boring allows us to get into places where traditional drills would struggle and also drill shorter lengths where HDD may not be feasible.
At AV Drilling our auger boring equipment allows us to drill boreholes of up to 600mm indiameter and our dry boring method means there is no mess and no waste.
